Disaster Assistance Coordinator - Iowa
Northland Regional Council of Governments
The Iowa Northland Regional Council of Governments
(INRCOG) is seeking applicants for the position of Disaster
Assistance Coordinator. Responsibilities include administering
state and federal hazard mitigation programs. The position
involves working with city and county officials, contractors,
homeowners and other public officials. Applicants must have
BA/BS degree in Business Administration, Public Administration,
or related field, with minimum of one year experience preferred.

Internship - Southern
Iowa Council of Governments (SICOG)
The Southern Iowa Council of Governments in
Creston, Iowa, serving the cities and counties of Adair, Adams,
Clarke, Decatur, Madison, Ringgold, Taylor, and Union Counties
in southern Iowa offers an internship for the summer or fall
of 2008. The internship will be a paid temporary full-time
position working in our office with existing planning and
housing staff members. Likely assignments will include:
1. Housing assessment - visual surveys
and mapping (some out of office work)
2. Hazard mitigation plan preparation, including GIS mapping
and research work
3. GIS for transportation planning
4. General GIS for other projects - analytical mapping of
Census data
5. Possible work on comprehensive planning
6. Some grantsmanship (training to be provided)
Housing, employment timeframe and duration,
salary, and benefits, if any, will be negotiated during the
hiring process with each individual candidate. The position
will require light physical labor, extensive knowledge of
Word, Excel, Internet applications, and ArcGIS, analytic skills,
understanding of planning processes, understanding of Census
data, and possible public speaking. A few evening meetings
with other staff may be required.

Environmental Planner - Iowa
Northland Regional Council of Governments

is seeking applicants for Environmental Planner. Responsibilities
include: contacting businesses in a multi-county region to
assess waste stream and identify waste reduction techniques,
maintaining database of waste exchange materials, and assisting
counties in maintaining state mandates for volume reduction.
Applicants must have Bachelor's degree in environmental education
or related field, minimum one year experience, and demonstrate
knowledge of industrial/business issues. Applications may
